About Time….
I finally got my username and password to be able to write a posting (after Jason already set it up for me on 1 December last year). Last year seems to be just yesterday, but already we are at the end of the first 1/12′th of the new year.
I want to give a special thanks to all the HCUG members for the enthusiasm and support I have received during the last year.
Ria and I have finally decided to work together, and we re-decorated the garage, and it’s now an office, with 24 hour internet connection, and everything else you need to program, support clients and build websites. We also moved into the realm of web hosting, having our own servers (2 at this point) connected via a 100 MHz connection to the UUNET backbone.
Speaking of Ria, you in the HCUG that questioned her existence….see you on the 8’th at the braai (with Ria and baby).
On the Clarion Side, C6.3 was released with all the ups and downs associated with that. More good from the release, by far, than any suggestion of a few disgruntled people (me included in instances) would have you belief..
It’s a pity Robert Paresi refuses to re-compile IQXML in C6.3 until SV has resolved his TPSFIX Problem (a problem that is a major issue to anyone using TPS file driver for their applications). I think not releasing IQXML, shows a side that I am not prepared to live with, (first me satisfied by SV before my clients satisfied by me), and I am now removing the excellent tool from all my applications.
On a brighter note, the Secwin Online Server is really taking shape, and Robert from Capesoft is so open to suggestions (not that they all get implemented). I have been using SOS now for two months and except for a few problems that is mostly sorted out, I think SOS is already a very mature product and well worth the money.
Hope to see you all soon at the HCUG braai on the 8’th. (barbeque for the non-Afrikaners). Now it’s off to finish my first article for Clarionmag…yeeehaaaa….
Have fun
Ben

Thanks Ben for your first post! You are our first guest “poster” if you may call it that. See you on the 8th.

Looking forward to seeing you all tonight.. One day we need to try and have a social event where we decide upfront that there will no “shop talk”.. Or maybe we can penalize shop talk with having to drink more beer .. Are we ever going to see the VCS tool I heard rumors about Ben?? All the best mate, see you later… Look forward to meeting the family..

Hi
I actually spoke to David about the VCS tool last week, and we decided that it will have to wait till the first official “shop talk” session of the HCUG.
I hear and reas alot about your family as well….hope to see them there…
Best regards, and good luck with the new product.

Unbelievable. I just read this and I am dumb-founded.
> It’s a pity Robert Paresi refuses to re-compile IQXML in C6.3 … (first me satisfied by SV before my clients satisfied by me) …
iQ-XML is a FREE piece of software. Using the words “before my clients satisfied by me” is unwarranted. No one using iQ-XML is a client of mine, as I wrote this application specifically for myself and then put it up on the web absolutely free of charge, asking absolutely nothing in return. If I charged for iQ-XML, I would treat this application differently. But, the reason I did not do this was because I have a huge application made up of 23+ DLL’s as well as three other applications which I maintain and support for my ‘real’ clients. Downloading an unusable Clarion6 update just so I can release iQ-XML for free, so that I can spend a lot of time away from doing what my company/job actually does, is not what I want to do or in my best interest.
iQ-XML is of great value even at hundreds of dollars, but I charge nothing at all for it - it is JUST a hobby of mine.
It’s amazing that you bitched about something publically you never even paid for.

Hi Robert.
Please note the following … I mention it is an excelent tool.
You released the tool in binary format to the Clarion community, making each and every one that downloaded it and used it, MORALLY your client. If you don’t want them your client, then you release the source code as well, THEN only can you claim they are not your clients, or if you don’t want the obligation, you don’t release something like this at all.
I asked you a specific question about the release of IQXML for Clarion 6.3 and your response was that you are NOT going to release a C6.3 version untill you are happy with Clarion as supplied by Softvelocity.
I even emailed you and offered to compile it ON YOUR BEHALF if you did not want to install C6.3, and YOU REFUSED the offer. That makes you MORALLY RESPONSABLE for the lack of updates to the tool YOU put in the clarion community, be it free or not.
I reported that I could not get an update to the tool, I also reported your responce to me when I requested an update, and I reported my reaction to that.
If you feel that I bitched about it, maybe you should ask yourself, who was responsible for creating the situation in the first place. I stand by what I said, and if you have a problem with that, I don’t want to debate this any more on this forum.
Send me an email in private if you feel you need to sort this out with me or if you want me to change any wording. (Which you should have done in the first place, instead of attracting attention to my posting and then maybe getting more people agreeing with me than with you.)
I still feel this is a great tool, and I was thinking of trying it again in the future, but I see that you don’t want to take ownership of your own products, so I can not risk my future and my client’s futures on a product that the producer does not even want to take responsibility for.
Please email me in private if you want to continue this.
Kind Regards
Ben
