Where is Clarion 7?
There is exactly 66 days until Father Christmas is coming to eat the cookies and milk I’m putting out for him. 66 folks. That also then means that there is 72 days until we (the Clarion community) are “supposed” to get the greatest gift of all… the highly coveted, Clarion 7, which for the first time since Windows 95 will become a 32bit IDE.
Windows 95 was a milestone for computer worldwide. It was the first-time 32bit applications came into existance.
2006 is “supposedly” set to become a milestone too. Clarion will become 32bit too. More than a decade after the word 32bit was uttered. One thing Clarion ain’t doing, is winning any races, that’s for sure.
Having showed everyone what clarion 6 looks like on Vista at the last Usergroup meeting, I’m sure no-one wants to have buttons chopped off, or worst yet, a dropdown menu that is completly hidden. So I am for one, won’t be upgrading to Vista until Clarion 7 is out, which is a shame, because Vista really rocks.
So, the big question is…. Where is Clarion 7?
I wish I had an answer. I really wish I did. Clarion is “supposedly” going to be released this year. But with exactly one Clarion 7 demo coming from Soft Velocity, and exactly no other information, makes me pretty sure that there is more of a chance of Father Christmas eating my cookies and drinking my milk this year, than me getting my grubby little paws on Clarion 7.
I’d rather have a proper timeline that is updated fortnightly about Clarion 7, than a promise of sometime in ‘06 nonsense. Rather tell us it won’t be ready, but tell us exactly where things stand.
Tell us exacly what is built and what isn’t, what the challenges are, or that Clarion 7 will be delayed for 2, 4 or 6 months. Honesty and transparency, sometimes is the best policy.
For those of you that have kids, ask them to please include Clarion 7 on their wish list for Santa. It would make my Christmas all the better.
Its officially the weekend, so enjoy it folks. –End rant.
